A 12-year-old boy tragically lost his life after being fatally stabbed while walking home in his school attire. Described as a kind and friendly individual, the victim was discovered with severe injuries near Scribers Lane, Hall Green, around 3 pm on Tuesday, according to West Midlands Police.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, the boy succumbed to his wounds. Authorities have notified the victim’s family and are providing them with support through trained personnel. A 14-year-old boy has been apprehended on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident. The deceased is believed to have been a Year 8 student at Christ Church Secondary Academy in Yardley Wood.
While the school has refrained from commenting on the incident, it has stated on its website that classes are proceeding as usual. Witnesses reported that the boy, donning his school uniform, was assaulted near a park while heading home.
A parent, preferring anonymity, shared that a passer-by discovered the victim in a lifeless state and alerted emergency services. The parent’s son described the deceased as exceptionally pleasant.
In a public statement, West Midlands Police urged individuals to come forward with any relevant information to aid their investigation. They have established a major incident public portal (MIPP) for the submission of potential photo or video evidence by the public.
Authorities are encouraging anyone with details to utilize the MIPP platform or contact 101, quoting log 3324 dated January 21. Detective Inspector Joe Davenport of the West Midlands Police major crime unit emphasized the importance of CCTV footage and witness accounts in unraveling the circumstances of the incident and identifying the perpetrator. He urged individuals who witnessed the event or captured any part of it on dashcam or mobile devices to promptly report their findings.
